Beyond the buzzer & results : How BLACK transformed the NBL Game week two

The second match week of the National Basketball League was not just about results on the court. It was about experience, energy and engagement, and BLACKLYF set the tone before the final buzzer in the men’s game.

At halftime of the clash between the UCU Canons and the Namuwongo Blazers, the BLACK Power Play transformed the arena into an interactive stage. Fans left their seats and stepped onto the hardwood for a series of high-energy challenges that brought the crowd to life. The Blindfold Free Throw Challenge had the arena holding its breath with every release, while others tested their touch shooting from the charity line. Cheers echoed across the venue as participants competed for exclusive BLACK products, turning ordinary halftime minutes into unforgettable moments.

Beyond the court, the BLACK tent stood as a hub of activity throughout the night. Fans explored product demos, interacted with the team, and made purchases on the spot.  A seamless blend of lifestyle tech and basketball culture. If Match Week Two was any indication, the BLACK Power Play is not a one-off spectacle but a season-long promise. Supporters can expect interactive challenges, giveaways, and the BLACK tent experience at major games throughout the campaign.

Two reigning champions came into the week needing responses after opening round setbacks.

The Namuwongo Blazers, who captured their first-ever championship last season, had fallen 74-65 to the City Oilers in their opener. But in Friday night’s contest against UCU, the defending champions looked determined to avoid any early-season doubts. They raced out of the blocks, taking the first two quarters 19-14 and 15-12 to establish a 34-26 halftime lead.

Dominance inside the paint defined the game. New addition Fataki Nyembo, alongside veterans James Okello and Arthur Wanyoto, imposed themselves physically against UCU’s smaller lineup. The Blazers extended their control in the third quarter, outscoring the Canons 18-10 to carry a commanding 52-36 advantage into the final frame. There was no route back for UCU, as the Blazers secured a composed 70-58 victory.

Nyembo led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds, Innocent Ochera added 10 points, and Wanyoto contributed nine points and eight boards. For UCU, Marvin Okurut came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points, the only Canon to reach double figures. The result leaves both sides with identical 1-1 records early in the season.

On the women’s side, the JKL Lady Dolphins also responded after dropping their season opener to the KCCA Leopards. Facing last year’s finalists, the JT Lady Jaguars, JKL showed their championship pedigree in a 78-68 win. Brenda Ekone led with 17 points, Ritah Imanishimwe added 15 off the bench, and youngster Melissa Taliba impressed with 15 points in a balanced team effort.

Match Week Two delivered statement wins, but it also showcased something bigger. A league evolving both on and off the court. With competitive fire returning to the champions and BLACK redefining the halftime experience, this season of the National Basketball League is shaping up to be as entertaining in the stands as it is on the scoreboard.
